4 Keys to Marketing a Charity
Many organisations believe Marketing is driving sales, conversions and leads, and that Marketing within a charity isn’t appropriate. In this article, i’d like to showcase a few key areas to help market your charity to help in driving donations and building relationships with your stakeholders.
1. Understand your Audience
Getting a firm understanding on who your audience are and what you want to achieve is essential to any marketing campaign and potentially even more important within a cash tight non-profit environment.
With understanding your audience, you are able to find out what makes them like your organisation, why they are donating or contacting your audience and most importantly how to find people of a similar interest to become interesting in your organisation.
Ways to understand your audience include, but not limited to, Reports from Google Analytics (ensure this is installed on your website!) and Insights within your Social Media Platforms. These tools are able to tell you the general demographics or your existing users, such as age and gender etc which gives you an understanding on who your ‘target audience’ is.
2. Use your Data & tell a Story
Most charities are achieving much more than what they are telling people! People are interested in what you are doing, where donations are going too, who you are supporting etc. A testimony of someone impacted from your charity speaks volumes, and people want to hear this! Don’t be shy boasting about the achievements you are having within your non-profit and use all Digital Marketing platforms, such as e-mail marketing, social media marketing and even physical mailing to get your message out.
3. Use Free Resources – Google Grants
Free Resources? You’ve heard me right! Did you know, as a Registered Charity in the UK you can apply for a Google Grant which gives you $10,000 per month for Adverts on Google! This opens up a huge new audience to your charity, and allows you to target digital visitors who may be interested in your charity.
4. Find more Free Resources – YouTube for Non-Profit
Even more Free Resources! YouTube have offered their platform for you to upload video content, give the user the ability to donate from the video page and even, when your YouTube platform grows Production support for non-profits!
